Social Work Continuing Education Requirements for the State of Hawai'i
Social workers in the State of Hawai'i are required to complete a minimum of forty-five credit hours of continuing education courses during the licensing triennium. These forty-five credit hours must be completed before the renewal date and a minimum of three credit hours shall be in ethic courses.
The continuing education courses must be approved by one of the following:
If you are a first time license, you are not required to fulfill the continuing education requirement for the first license renewal. You will have to fulfill the requirement in subsequent triennium licensing periods.
Courses approved by the NASW Hawai'i Chapter receive an approval number which is required to be listed listed on an events publicity and on the letter certifying your attendance:
Other approving bodies may have similar requiresments. When in doubt, ask the organization hosting the continuing education event if they have been approved to provide social work continuing education contact hours.
An important note: If an event/course/workshop has not been approved by one of the approving bodies, it will not count towards the required forty-five credit hours of continuing education.
Remember, during each licensing triennium, complete forty-five (45) credit hours of continuing education courses, which have been approved by one of the designated approving bodies, before the renewal date. At minimum, three (3) credit hours must be in ethic courses.
